Just a few days after it was announced that Gibson would be doing a limited release of John Lennon's white guitar, Hallmark Guitars USA has announced they will be officially licensing a re-issue of Johnny Ramone's guitar based on the Mosrite Venture design. Many guitar enthusiasts were not aware that Johnny used an extremely rare, early 1965 prototype model of a Ventures II. The guitar was pulled from the manufacturer in it's prototype stage and is estimated that only 25 of the original prototypes were actually made. This was the model that Johnny used throughout his career. The re-issue will be priced affordably and should be out in stores sometime this year.
Gibson has announced they are honoring, what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday, with a release of limited editions guitars that John played. There will be three models, which include 70 of the all white "Imagine" model, 70 replicas of John's J-160E and 500 of an earlier model that he played as well. Prices will range from $4,700 to $15,000.
