In 1977, Floyd D. Rose created the Floyd Rose Locking Tremolo, which revolutionized the guitar industry. The locking system consists of 1. A lock at the nut of the guitar, which prevents the tuning heads from being used and holds the strings taut. 2. A "floating bridge", where the other ends of the strings are also vise-locked, hence, "double-locking." This locking system produced 6 patents. Not only do the sell, license and distribute this system, Floyd Roses also manufactures guitars.
