Given today's financial climate, investments are almost a gamble, especially if you're looking at the stock market or real estate, it seems to be hit and miss. A lot of individuals are using these times to pick up distressed tangible assets, such as artwork and vintage musical instruments. As people get laid off, and the need for money comes up, some prized possessions are going to the auction block, many times at a discounted rate. Bust like any long term investment, if you stick with it, the rewards will come. Vintage guitars are something that will always go up.
This story from the Washington times talks about a man who purchased a 1952 Gibson Goldtop Les Paul for $100 bucks in 1966. He sold it later to a musician for $400, and with that profit he paid for his University tuition. Well, if he had held on to that guitar for 50 years, and kept it in excellent condition, it would be worth $15,000.00. That's a pretty good ROI if you ask me.
